​​​SDAIA's Achievements During the ​COVID-19 Pandemic
 

The COVID-19 pandemic left far-reaching consequences and challenges beyond the spread of the disease itself. It also called for many efforts to contain the spread of the virus. The beginning was difficult for everyone, as many challenges emerged consecutively, creating many exceptional circumstances that required an urgent response.

SDAIA effectively achieved many achievements rapidly through the initiatives it launched.

 

SDAIA's Achievements during the COVID-19 Pandemic

SDAIA launched several initiatives to confront the COVID-19 pandemic, support the security and healthcare sectors, and enhance the participation of community members in containing the pandemic, by:

  • Supporting decision-making through the Operations Center to support the security and healthcare authorities and the Saudi Covid-19 Indicator.
  • Containing the crisis through "Tawakkalna" and "Tabaud" applications and the "Absher" platform.
  • Business continuity through "BOROOG" platform, the precautionary committee, remote training courses, and University Graduates Assessment Center.
  • Developing innovative solutions through Datathon, Homathon competitions, and Global Experiences Report.

SDAIA has achieved many achievements, which were reflected in good results that led the Kingdom to rank third in the world by launching the application (Tabaud) to track contacts using the technologies of Apple and Google.

  • +34 million movement permits issued through "Tawakkalna" application.
  • The first case of infection with the new COVID-19 virus in Saudi Arabia was discovered with the help of SDAIA.
  • The first country to hold the G20 summit virtually.

Statistics of SDAIA's achievements during the COVID-19 pandemic:

+1580 remote training seats have been benefited by "SDAIA" employees during the curfew period.

+190 thousand global experiences have been leveraged using data and artificial intelligence to combat the pandemic.

+200 thousand meetings were held remotely, which enabled the country's leadership to hold meetings during the crisis through "BOROOG" platform.

+90 thousand electronic requests for the return of residents to their countries were submitted through "AWDAH" service.

+70 thousand electronic review requests submitted to the emirates regions and sectors of the Ministry of Interior.

+4 thousand electronic requests were submitted for the return of citizens stranded abroad.

%22 decrease in the number of incoming calls to the Red Crescent (997) after launching the "Emergency Medical Permit" service through "Tawakkalna" application.

SDAIA supported the security and healthcare sectors in containing the crisis.

An integrated electronic system was developed to assist the concerned authorities in managing the curfew period. It includes many components that serve the community members and the private sector's beneficiaries and support decision-makers in government entities.

Objective

Helping the concerned authorities automate transactions and reduce the health, economic, and social damage resulting from the policies taken to limit the spread of the new COVID-19 virus and facilitate community members' access to movement permits during the curfew period electronically.

Application notifies users when they come into contact with people infected with the emerging COVID-19 virus using Bluetooth technology.

Many government entities benefited from “Tawakkalna” application and a large segment of users inside the Kingdom used it:

  • The use of "Tawakkalna" application, in activating the feature of proving the health status, contributed to limiting the spread of the virus and reducing cases by 86% within two months, as the most significant success at the regional and global levels. "Tabaud" application has enhanced the community's involvement in containing the crisis and supporting the concerned authorities in lifting the precautionary measures through:
  • Achieving the desired health and safety goal by involving individuals in efforts to control the spread of the virus.
  • The implementation coincided with gradually reducing restrictions on social life and other activities.
"Tabaud" application uses the latest contact tracing technologies and maintains the confidentiality and privacy of users' data:

The application sends camouflaged identifier data to smartphones using the same application, which was registered during the period of contact with an infected person.

The application uses Bluetooth technology in addition to technologies developed by Apple and Google, whereby the entire privacy of user data is preserved.

Suppose infection with the virus is reported through the application; in that case, notifications will be sent to all those who came into contact with the infected person during the past 14 days and instructed about requesting health support from the Ministry of Health.

BOROOG

A secure visual communication platform dedicated to the government sector, especially to the country's senior leadership and leaders of the executive authority, in addition to other essential and critical sectors.

Objective

Enabling important government sectors to hold internal and external meetings remotely during the emerging COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

The system was established and connected within eight days.

"BOROOG" platform helped maintain remote work, raise productivity, and increase efficiency:

Increase productivity and improve achievement.

Reduce the costs of holding meetings.

Business continuity during the crisis.

"BOROOG" platform has several capabilities that support holding government and critical meetings remotely in a secure manner:

Safe connection through closed circuits.

The possibility of connecting to the Internet securely.

The capacity is more than 300 contacts at the same time.

The clarity of sound and image is very high.

+1500 virtual meetings and conferences.

Many important meetings were held during the crisis, and many senior leaders in the country benefited from "BOROOG" platform:
